Et Tu, Carole Jean?

The AP got hold of a 5/7 letter from state GOP chairwoman Carole Jean Jordan to Katherine Harris warning her that the party would not support a campaign it viewed as hopeless. Remember, this came at a time when the betting was Allan Bense would get in.

"Katherine, though it causes us much anguish, we have determined that your campaign faces irreparable damage," said the confidential letter, obtained Monday by The Associated Press. "We feel that we have no other choice but to revoke our support."

The Harris campaign, no surprise, blew off LeRoy Collins' debate challenge, but noted the congresswoman "honors his heritage as the son of a former Democrat governor." Harris spokewoman Jennifer Marks: "Congresswoman Harris looks forward to seeing Mr. Collins on the campaign trail, but won’t disrupt scheduled commitments on our very full August calendar."
