Ethics commission clears books of Sansom cases
The Florida Ethics Commission today dismissed three complaints against former House speaker Ray Sansom, saying it was not worth pursuing further since he has resigned from office (he did in February 2010, on the eve of a House trial). The panel also noted that criminal corruption charges against the Destin Republican had been dropped.
Sansom also resigned from a job at Northwest Florida State College that he was accused of getting in return for steering millions of dollars to the school.
The commission also dismissed a complaint against one of Sansom's co-defendants, former college president James "Bob" Richburg. Richburg had been accused of having a conflict of interest because of his association with a bank that involved an individual whose architectural firm worked for the school.
