Ethics complaint against Crist
L.G. McClure of Tallahassee has filed a complaint against Charlie Crist with the Florida Ethics Commission. It says Crist "stood by" top fundraiser Sergio Pino while Pino was under federal investigation; that according to the Tampa Tribune Crist accepted contributions from 15 companies formed by Kenneth Underwood of Pone Vedra Beach just days after Underwood created the companies and accepted thousands in contributions from companies recently created by Mark Spillane of Boca Raton; that Crist used a plane and accepted (and later returned) $1,000 from Russell Whitney of Cape Coral, who was under investigation by the attorney general's office for deceptive advertising.
Said the complaint: "These examples do not portray the high ethical standards that are required by an individual who holds the office of attorney general and they are void of the most basic standards of leadership. At the very least, Attorney General Crist should explain his decisions regarding Mr. Whitney and Mr. Underwood and return all contributions that were given or raised by Mr. Pino."
