Ex-Sen. Connie Mack backs Kottkamp for A.G.
We sense a possible Cape Coral connection here: Former Republican Sen. Connie Mack has just endorsed Lt. Gov. Jeff Kottkamp for attorney general in 2010. Not a huge surprise, considering Kottkamp is unopposed, but with other Republicans casting an eye at this powerful office, Kottkamp delivers an endorsement that any ambitious Republican would like (both Mack and Kottkamp are from Cape Coral in Southwest Florida).
In a statement released Tuesday by the Kottkamp campaign, Mack says Kottkamp will protect Florida citizens and the growth of the state's economy. Mack, a former congressman, was elected to the Senate in 1988 and served two terms (Democrat Bill Nelson was elected in 2000 to replace Mack in the Senate). Mack's cachet might come in useful as Kottkamp seeks to rev up his fund-raising.
"I am honored and humbled to have the support of Sen. Mack," Kottkamp said. "He was designated a 'Great Floridian' for a reason."
