Fasano to Crist: Pick Dan Webster for Senate

10

August

August 10, 2009

Dear Governor Crist,

I know you recognize the important decision now left to you in light of Senator Mel Martinez’s resignation. While filling this vacancy may seem to some as temporary, you understand its significance. It is a critical time in America and Washington as Congress confronts substantial issues over the next year and more. As you contemplate what is best for our State and people, please consider former Senator Daniel Webster as your choice to finish out Senator Martinez’s term.

Senator Webster’s personal, legislative and political qualities make him an ideal choice to represent Florida and you in the United States Senate.

Senator Webster moved to Florida as a young boy. He and wife Sandy have raised six wonderful children and together they operate their family-run air conditioning business in Orlando. An engineer by training and a small businessman by trade, he has a keen understanding of the issues facing many Floridians.

Senator Webster is a modest man, his morals and ethics are without repute and his integrity and reputation reflect the high standards of your own office. Through 60 years of life, 28 of which were spent in the Legislature, he has always demonstrated a basic sense of fairness which is the hallmark of his career. His character and high-mindedness are revered by Republicans and Democrats alike and his choosing would undoubtedly be heralded by people of every political, geographic, ethnic and religious persuasion.

The unique timing and circumstances of this situation make experience even more critical. Throughout Senator Webster’s service to the people of central Florida, he has held many leadership positions including Speaker of the House and Majority Leader of the Senate, both positions elected by his peers. Because of his calm demeanor and steady hand, leaders at all levels have come to rely upon his counsel; no one has a firmer grasp of the issues and the process.

In the end, there are few finer public servants than Senator Daniel Webster; his priority is Florida. Please consider Senator Webster to help you lead us through the challenges that lie ahead. I know that whomever you choose will be up to the task.

Yours truly,

Mike Fasano

President Pro Tempore
Florida Senate
