Fasano finds 'outrage' in exit deal for ousted Visit Florida CEO
Sen. Mike Fasano today sent a letter to Gov. Charlie Crist, blasting the fat exit package for ousted Visit Florida CEO Bud Nocera, who was dismissed last week.
According to Fasano's letter, the exit deal is worth $500,000, requiring that Nocera be paid the balance due on his contract, which includes salary, automobile allowances and a bonus.
"For an individual who is being removed from his job for cause this is an outrage," Fasano wrote. "The state of Florida will be on the hook for roughly $500,000 to pay a person who will no longer be employed by the state."
His solution? Veto Visit Florida's $20.75 million appropriation in the 2009-10 budget.
"As the chairman of the Senate Transportation and Economic Development Appropriations Committee I urge that you use your line-item veto authority to remove the appropriation for Visit Florida from the state’s budget. It is my understanding that this sweetheart contract was negotiated without the board of Visit Florida’s approval; it was negotiated by the chairman and the CEO privately."
