Feds: Engineering firm PBS&J made illegal contributions dating back to 1980s

One of Florida's biggest government contractors, Tampa-based PBS&J, has been making illegal campaign contributions since the 1980s, according to a lengthy investigation by the Federal Elections Commission.

The investigation found that at the company once known as Post Buckley Schuh & Jernigan, which has designed and overseen construction of such projects as the Suncoast Parkway, making such illegal contributions "were an important part of PBS&J's business strategy."

Among the candidates who received the contributions, according to the FEC: Bill Clinton, Bob Graham, Bill McCollum, Alcee Hastings, Lincoln Diaz-Balart, Connie Mack and Mel Martinez.

But the firm won't be charged because of a party-line vote by the FEC. The statute of limitations runs out Wednesday. The full story is here.
