Fla poll: Newt Gingrich 48%, Mitt Romney 25%
Times/CNN have a batch of new polls out this afternoon showing Gingrich leading Mitt Romney in Iowa 33 percent to 20, in South Carolina 43 to 20 and in Florida 48 to 25--in line with several other recent Florida polls. Romney is leading Gingrich in New Hampshire 35 to 26.
The Nov. 29- Dec. 6 Florida poll (MoE +/- 4.5 percent) has Gingrich with 48, Romney with 25, Ron Paul at 5, Michele Bachmann, Jon Huntsman and Rick Perry each with 3 percent, and Rick Santorum at 1 percent. Fifty three percent of those surveyed said they might change their mind.
Especially striking in the Florida poll the breadth of support for Gingrich. He and Romney evenly divide moderate Republicans, while self-described conservatives heavily favor the former U.S. House Speaker. He has a big lead among born again voters, tea party Republicans, and he performs stongly with rural and urban voters alike.
