Fla Voices web site getting confused with attack ad group

August

The folks at Florida Voices,  the non partisan statewide editorial group, are getting a bit hot under the collar at a newly formed policital committee that is using their name to buy political ads.

Dr. Judith Cineas, a West Palm Beach social worker,  is the registered agent for  Florida Voices, an electioneering communications organization formed on July 25. A short time later the committee began sponsoring ads that attack Rep. Jeff Clemens, D-Lake Worth. Clemens is seeking an open senate seat in Tuesday’s election against Rep. Mack Bernard, D-West Palm Beach.

In letters to Cineas, Rosemary Curtiss, publisher of Florida Voices, the non partisan web publication that distributes editorials on Florida issues, said Managing Editor Rosemary Goudreau has repeatedly attempted to stop the use of the name in political advertising “amicably and quietly’’ without success.

Curtiss said officials at Public Concepts, a West Palm Beach political consulting company, assured her that they would discontinue use of the name but continued to use it in robocalls made Saturday.

Curtiss said they will shortly file a formal complaint with the Florida Elections Commission in a further effort to stop the use of the name.

In a letter sent to Cineas Monday, Curtiss suggested the committee is attempting to deliberately confuse people by using the Florida Voices name.  Recipients of attack mailers sent to voters in the district are calling and emailing the editorial site with complaints.

Cineas did not return telephone calls. Nielson said he didn’t file the paperwork and believes the editorial group failed to incorporate until after the political committee wasformed.

“If a bunch of misguided liberal groups lose sleep thinking I'm behind alltheir misfortune and election losses, I'm happy to oblige them and theirparanoia. I look forward to November,” Nielson added.
