Flagging Mel
A Washington group known for bashing Republican senators is targeting Mel Martinez of Florida. The Senate Majority Project circulated a photo on Wednesday of Martinez signing photos of himself while he was presiding over the Senate during the controversial flag debate the day before.
"I guess Mel decided the flag-burning debate was a shameless attempt to divert from the really important issues—like making sure Florida voters know just how pretty he is," the group's commications director Christy Setzer said.
Martinez favored the amendment and spoke about it earlier in the day to an almost empty chamber.
"The senator is incredibly good at multitasking and making the most of his time in the chair; rest assured, he’s always listening to the debate," Martinez spokesman Ken Lundberg said.
