Florida Independent online website going dark
The Florida Independent, an online investigative reporting network operating in Florida for almost two years will shut down on April 27.
Citing “tough times for journalists,’’ Independent writer Cooper Levey-Baker announced the news Wednesday saying the American Independent News Network had been unable to build a donor base strong enough to sustain operations.
The organization was the seventh online news organization created by the Washington-based Center for Independent Media, a nonprofit funded in part with grants from the Knight Foundation and the Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice.
The website, www.floridaindependent.com, will remain active but no new content will appear after the end of the month.
