Times political editor Adam C. Smith caught up with state Rep. Alan Williams, D-Tallahassee, as he waited for the ceremony to begin.
"This is a validation of of the first four years of Barack Obama's administration and it's an opportunity for the president to really change the landscape of American politics for the next 10 to 15 years," Williams said.
He said he remains optmistic Republicans in Congress will do more than just oppose every presidential initiative.
"The wind is at the president's back and for Congress just to challenge the president and not do anything will have a negative impact for them in the midterm election and affect a lot of governor's races."
