Florida Republicans, Richer Than Ever
The Republican Party of Florida raised a staggering $40-million in the two months leading up to next Tuesday's election. That was more than twice as much as the state GOP has raised in any previous quarter and it dwarfed the Democrats' take of $14.8-million, which wasn't too shabby, either.
The Republican Party raked in 62 individual contributions of $100,000 or more. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce gave $1.96-million, the Republican Governors Association gave $1.225-million, and a pro-Charlie Crist political committee, Floridians for Truth and Integrity, kicked in $1.1-million.
The GOP's report also shows two checks, of $950,000 and $200,000, from a political group called Partnership for Economic Freedom. That's the group created by state Senate Republican leaders which was the recipient of the soft money raised three years ago by Senate President Tom Lee, who's running for chief financial officer.
The Dems' biggest donor: Florida Lawyers Action Group, an arm of the trial bar, gave $800,000.
