Florida unemployment rate falls to 9.9 percent
Florida's unemployment rate dropped from 10 percent to 9.9 percent in December, the first time the rate has fallen back into the single digits in more than two and a half years.
In announcing the numbers Friday morning Gov. Rick Scott noted that the unemployment rate is now 2.1 percentage points lower than it was when he took office a year ago. He cited efforts to cut regulations and streamline government as acting as a stimulus for job creation.
"This proves that the changes that were implemented with the help of our friends in the Legislature are working," Gov. Rick Scott said in a media teleconference. He ended the brief session before taking any media questions.
