Florida votes party line on contempt resolution against AG Holder
Florida Republicans all voted in favor of a contempt resolution against Attorney General Eric Holder.
Of the Democrats, Ted Deutch and Debbie Wasserman Schultz voted no, while Corrine Brown, Kathy Castor, Alcee Hastings and Frederica Wilson walked out in protest.
Hastings: “It is contemptuous that Republicans decided to cast a stain on this institution by finding the United States Attorney General in contempt of Congress. No Cabinet official in the history of this country has ever been held in contempt. I warned yesterday that if we did this, history will judge us harshly. And it will."
Republican Rep. Gus Bilirakis, R-Palm Harbor: “'Operation Fast & Furious'” was a flawed and deadly program. We must get to the bottom of it and those responsible must be held accountable. The American people and Congress have lost faith in the ability of Attorney General Holder’s ability to properly uphold the law and the interests of the United States,” Bilirakis said. “That is why I have been calling for his resignation since last December, and is why I voted today to charge him with contempt.”
