In Florida, years ago, Santorum conjured up Satan. Today, it's a problem.

Satan is dogging Rick Santorum on the campaign trail.

Santorum's rise has come with increased scrunity, including a 2008 speech he made at Ave Maria University in Naples in which he said Satan was attacking America.

"This is a spiritual war," Santorum said. "And the father of lies has his sights on what you would think the father of lies would have his sights on: a good, decent, powerful, influential country — the United States of America. If you were Satan, who would you attack in this day and age?"

The Drudge Report, not a fan of Santorum, highlighted the speech and it's become a topic for reporters covering the campaign. Romney surrogate Chris Christie said it's relevant. Yesterday, Santorum played it down. "If they want to dig up old speeches of me talking to religious groups, they can go ahead and do so," he told reporters in Arizona. "But I'm going to stay on message and I'm going to talk about things that Americans want to talk about which is creating jobs, making our country more secure, and yeah, taking on the forces around his world who want to do harm to America, and you bet I will take them on."
