Florida's mixed vote on war funding
The U.S House on Tuesday approved $33 billion in war funding but many Democrats -- including three from Florida -- opposed the spending in a sign of deepening worries about the effort in Afghanistan.
Florida Reps. Kathy Castor, Alcee Hastings and Corrine Brown voted against the measure. Three members from the state did not vote: Alan Grayson, Kendrick Meek, who was campaigning in Florida, and C.W. Bill Young, who is undergoing back surgery. (vote story here)
UPDATE: Meek's spokesman said he would have voted with the majority. The campaign said the war funding came up earlier than expected and that's why he was not around to vote. But the missed vote left Meek vulnerable to criticism and on Wednesday, the Republican Party of Florida was suggesting he would rather campaign than support troops.
