Following Foley's money
When you raise $15-million, as Charlie Crist has, it might not be easy to track every $500 check. But the Florida Democratic Party had no problem tracking a $500 check from ex-Rep. Mark Foley's PAC (the Florida Republican Leadership PAC) to Crist's campaign on Sept. 29, 2005, a year to the day before the Foley story exploded in the media. Late last month, Crist held a fund-raiser in Washington, with Foley as a listed member of the host committeealong with Foley's former chief of staff, Kirk Fordham.
With politicians everywhere scrambling to wash themselves of Foley's tainted cash, "Why is Charlie Crist holding onto Mark Foley's money?" the Democrats asked Monday.
Crist spokeswoman Vivian Myrtetus said the $500 would be refunded and reflected in his next campaign report. She added that the Florida GOP, which also is getting rid of Foley's tainted money, is giving $13,800 to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
