Former Gov. Jeb Bush makes pick in Senate 17 Republican primary

July

State representative John Legg has picked up the endorsement of former Gov. Jeb Bush in his bid for the newly drawn Senate District 17 seat.

Legg, who is now a House member from Port Richey, has piled up a number of high-profile endorsements in the Republican primary. He is running in the new seat, which covers parts of south Pasco and northwest Hillsborough, by using his wife's home in Trinity rather than his home in Port Richey.

Incumbent Jim Norman dropped out of the race shortly after Legg jumped in. Legg is running in the primary against former state senator Rob Wallace and political newcomer John Korsak.

“John Legg is the conservative Republican that will put Senate District 17 and Florida back on track,” Bush said in a statement. “John’s backgrounds in education and business have taught him that government should help, not hinder, the creation of jobs and the
future success of our children. Having previously worked with him to reform our state’s education system, I know he is dedicated to improving his community and state and will support our Republican principles despite adversity. I endorse John Legg.”
