Former Verizon executive will run for Kevin Ambler's seat
Retired Verizon executive Irene Guy announced on her Facebook page that she plans to file today to run for the District 47 Florida House seat. Republican Kevin Ambler now holds the post, but is term-limited out of the position. He's making a bid for the District 12 Florida Senate seat.
On her Facebook page, Guy, a Republican, wrote: "Public service is calling me to share my knowledge and experience gained through years devoted to business and volunteerism. Prayers, advice, support and counsel welcome!"
Two other Republicans have already filed to run for the seat: Tom Aderhold, and Richard Reidy, an aide to Hillsborougn County Commissioner Ken Hagan. Democrat Christopher Mitchell and William Burda, a member of the Independent Party, have also filed to run.
Former Hillsborough County Commissioner Brian Blair, also a Republican, says he, too, will run for the seat and plans to file "soon."
"I'm just kind of getting all my ducks in a row," said Blair, who said today he's reviewing a list of contributors to his past campaigns. He said he has met Guy several times when she visited his commission office on behalf of Verizon.
"I like Irene. She's a nice person," he said. And how does he view her as an opponent in a primary? "Everybody's formidable. You never know who people will support."
