Fresh wave of attacks against Quiggle?
The Buzz is, a series of hard-hitting mailers and TV ads will soon be directed against Republican state Senate candidate Dan Quiggle, who polls show is the frontrunner in the four-way primary race to succeed the late Sen. Jim King in Jacksonville.
A lobbyist who supports former House speaker John Thrasher said the ads were to have begun Wednesday, and Quiggle's campaign is bracing for the worst. "We expected it," said spokesman Adam Giullette. "We're up in the polls, and our message is resonating with voters."
Quiggle is a Ponte Vedra businessman and is the most fiscally conservative candidate in the field, which includes Thrasher -- who is raising a wad of cash but polling in second place.
Thrasher campaign spokeswoman Sarah Bascom said there is no attack strategy being planned. Tonight Thrasher is scheduled to have a fundraiser in the district. If Thrasher doesn't win, that could be major egg on the face of Senate leadership that has endorsed Thrasher.
"We are not concerned about any of the opponents, as Speaker Thrasher is connecting with the district and voters are growing tired of the baseless mudslinging by shadowy third parties," Bascom said.
