Gaetz will pursue marketing money for Cover Florida
Sen. Don Gaetz, fresh off signing a compact to guarantee insurance coverage to cancer patients in clinical trials, said he will pursue more money in the 2010-11 state budget to market Cover Florida, Gov. Charlie Crist's struggling low-cost insurance program for Floridians.
Gaetz, chairman of the Senate health regulation policy committee, said it is the state's own fault that Cover Florida has so far enrolled fewer than 5,500 Floridians who previously lacked insurance coverage.
"If we would do a better job promoting Cover Florida, we'd have a lot more than 5,000 people," said Gaetz, R-Niceville. "We'd have 50,000 or more. We can't start a program and then not provide the resources to make sure people know about it."
