Gallagher Still Behind in Dollars

It's true that Tom Gallagher's announcement Aug. 17 that he wouldn't abandon his gubernatorial bid was good for his campaign's bottom line. In the five days before that announcement, his campaign had taken in just $1,120 in hard dollars.

But on the day of the announcement and the following day, the last of the weekly reporting period, he collected $12,000 in hard cash. The problem: Even with $12,398 in state matching dollars he was still the candidate with the weakest fundraising. His latest resport shows he raised $25,471 in contributions for Aug. 12 through Aug. 18.

By comparison, his opponent Charlie Crist raked in $324,241, of which $128,424 was matching funds.

Jim Davis once again won the Democratic fundraising game when it comes to the total collected: $106,647 in hard money, but that was boosted by $69,036 in matching funds. Rod Smith actually raised more donations. Of his $51,402 collected in hard money, $8,010 was matching funds.
