Gardiner endorses Frishe for Florida Senate
Senate Majority Leader Andy Gardiner has joined the growing list of Florida politicos endorse Rep. Jim Frishe's bid to join the Florida Senate.
Frishe's election website now includes this statement from Gardiner, of Orlando, who is slated to become Senate president in two years:
“I am proud to endorse fellow conservative, Jim Frishe, for the Florida Senate. I have known Jim Frishe since he came to the Florida House in 2006 where I served with him for two years. Serving in the House, Jim has proven his credentials as a valuable member to the conservative cause as well as a fierce defender of Tampa Bay. Jim brings valuable experience to the legislative process, dedication to conservative principles, and foresight we need to continue making our state a better place to live. I would be honored to serve alongside Jim Frishe in the Florida Senate.”
Frishe is currently expected to challenge fellow Republican Rep. Jeff Brandes for the seat that includes south Pinellas and parts of Tampa. Both men live in St. Petersburg. However, there has been speculation lately that Sen. Jack Latvala may decide to run in that district instead, meaning Frishe could switch with Latvala and run for a north Pinellas seat.
Right now, Brandes is running running for re-election to the House and hasn't publicly committed to running for the Senate. Frishe has said he has no plans to move. However, qualifying doesn't start for another few weeks so things could change.
