Glimpses from the trail with Rick Scott
State Sen. Don Gaetz of Niceville revved up a Panhandle crowd outside the Fish House in Pensacola: "Are you ready for a Republican governor?" he shouted, then turned to Rick Scott and said, "Rick, these are the hands and the hearts of Northwest Florida. They'll carry you to victory!" And they did — Scott won with huge margins along the "other" corridor, I-10, where, as usual, turnout exceeded the state average.
Scott was campaigning Sunday in St. Petersburg when he spotted a booth for WQYK-FM 99.5, a popular country station. The brief encounter reinforced how he views things through a business prism. He told the two men in the booth that as a lawyer, he "did deals" for a Texas businessman who would buy a station, move the tower to boost the signal, change the format to country, hire the top country DJ in the market, then sell the station.
Scott is no Seinfeld, but had some one-liners that never failed to get laughs, and even joked about spending $73-million of his own money on the race. On going to church: "I went to church so much as a child, I never need to go again." (story here)
