Goodlette on Arza: Go Away!

The latest developments in the Arza saga came Monday afternoon with four letters distributed by the House Speaker's Office: House Rules Chairman Dudley Goodlette, R-Naples, gave a very measured, lawyerly letter, complete with attachments to House Speaker Allan Bense on the pros and cons of expulsion. Though he was clear on one point: "It is my sincere hope that Rep. Arza will resign..." Click here to see the full letter, three pages plus attachments, Download GoodletteSpeaker.pdf.

Bense responded by appointing a committee to review the situation and make recommendations by Election Day. Chairman is Goodman, Rep. Loranne Ausley, D-Tallahassee, is vice chairwoman. Other members: Republicans Jennifer Carroll, Trey Traveisa, David Simmons and Democrat Terry Fields. Bense orders the group to meet sometime between Wednesday and Election Day, and to report to him before Election Day ends. To read Bense's letter, Download SpeakerClerk.pdf

And the House Speaker's office also released two letters from Rep. Ralph Arza, R-Hialeah, where he  denies ever mentioning Miami-Dade Superintendent Rudy Crew when he phoned Rep. Gus Barreiro, R-Miami Beach, and spoke the N-word.To read Arza's letters: Download ArzaLandsberg.pdf ; Download ArzaGoodlette.pdf
