GOP war erupts: Jim Greer expels critic
Within hours of us posting state GOP vice chairman Allen Cox's criticism of Chairman Jim Greer's fiscal managment, Greer expelled Cox from the budget committee he chaired for seven years. A party spokeswoman said Greer made the decision because he was told by this writer that Cox had provided us with confidential material from the party. If that's what Greer told other party leaders, it is false. We never said where we obtained any document. Anyway, here's the letter sent to Cox:
In accordance with party rules, committee members and chairs serve at the pleasure of the chairman. In accordance with such provisions I have been provided with information from numerous sources that you have discussed or released highly confidential information relating the RPOF budget and proprietary information provided to you as chairman of the budget committee.
Therefore, please be advised that effective immediately you are hereby removed as chairman of the budget committee and removed as a member of the budget committee.
Due to your actions I have directed that no proprietary or confidential information shall be provided to you.
Said spokeswoman Katie Betta: Regardless of whether or not he provided you the documents in question, his comments on the record speak for themselves. His actions constitute the biggest breach of protocol in the history of the RPOF. There were over 50 members on the call who overwhelming expressed their support for removing Mr. Cox from the budget committee. Several members of the board demanded his resignation and many others said they will pursue filing grievances against him. For the time being he will hold his position on the committee- the chairman will let the grievance process play out as it should.
