GOPers: Palin daughter pregnancy no problem
Sarah Palin today announced that her 17-year-old daughter is pregnant and will marry the father: "Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. We're proud of Bristol's decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support."
Florida Republicans in St. Paul said it did nothting to diminish their enthusiasm for Palin as VP: "It shows she's a real person,'' said delegate Cynthia Henderson of Tallahassee. "And it shows the character of John McCain. He knew about it and said it doesn't matter."
Attorney General Bill McCollum: "Most people understand that unfortunately some daughters do get pregnant. All of us have known, if it hasn't happened to ourselves, some daughter who's gotten pregnant. I really don't think it's going to be a signinificant factor at all. It's a one-day story...Sarah Palin certainly motivates the base of our party. Our Republicans in Florida will not only turn out but be more active in working and turning out the vote than they might have otherwise.
GOP fundraiser Stanley Tate: "I was surprised, yes, but it's a non-event. She's handling it the way any mother would handle it."
