Gov. Charlie Crist wants college to return money linked to Ray Sansom indictment
Gov. Charlie Crist agrees with State Attorney Willie Meggs that Northwest Florida State College should return $6 million it got for a controversial airport building.
"I think he's right," Crist said after an Earth Day event outside the Capitol. "It seems justified."
Meggs told the Times/Herald Tallahassee bureau on Monday that the college should return the money, which Rep. Ray Sansom secured in 2007. A grand jury on Friday indicted Sansom and college president Bob Richburg on official misconduct charges, alleging they misrepresented the project as an emergency operations and training center when it was actually an airport hangar for developer Jay Odom.
"They ought to abandon this project and give the money back," Meggs said Monday. "Someone needs to stand up and do what's right. It's ridiculous."
