Gov. Marco Rubio?
Sun-Sentinel: Former Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio, whose plan to run for U.S. Senate has been sidetracked by the possibility that Gov. Charlie Crist might seek to go to Washington, said Wednesday he'd probably run for governor if Crist goes for the Senate seat.
The mind reels at the dominoes that would tumble if Crist really did run for senate(and we would not put any real money on the prospect). The most frequent scenario speculated upon is Mel Martinez stepping down early, Crist resigning as governor, and new Gov. Jeff Kottkamp appointing Crist to the senate. So you'd have, at least, a Republican gubernatorial primary pitting Kottkamp against Rubio against, God knows who else. And then it's also a safe bet Democratic CFO Alex Sink would run for governor and be well-positioned.
Which begs the question: Would Republicans rather maintain a GOP Senate seat or risk a Democratic governor of America's biggest swing state.
On Sayfie Steve MacNamara has a fun look at the general election match-ups he predicts for 2010. Gov: Jeb Bush vs. Sink; Senate: Crist vs. Dan Gelber; Attorney General: Rubio vs. Dave Aronberg; CFO: Jeff Atwater vs. Loranne Ausley; Ag Commish: Adam Putnam vs. Debbie Boyd.
