Gov. Rick Scott to have private dinner with Senate budget chief J.D. Alexander
The guest list for Gov. Rick Scott's latest "social dinner" includes Senate budget chief J.D. Alexander and will take place tonight, just hours after Scott unveils the budget proposal he wants the Legislature to approve.
Also dining with Scott tonight are other members of Senate President Mike Haridopolos' Republican leadership team: Sen. Don Gaetz of Niceville and Sen. Andy Gardiner of Orlando.
Scott's press office insists no state business will be discussed, but Haridopolos' office is planning to notice the closed meeting "out of an abundance of caution," said David Bishop, Haridopolos' spokesman.
We asked whether the Senate would close the same meeting on its own turf, and Bishop said he'd get back to us. Bishop did acknowledge the Senate has not asked the governor's office to open the meeting.
Florida Senate rules require meetings of two or more lawmakers to be open to the public when state business is discussed.
