Gov. Scott hits the money trail, says Republicans must increase their voters

rpof-2011.jpgThe Republican Party of Florida coffers will be among Gov. Rick Scott's first priorities today, his first back on the job after a week-long respite at his secluded Montana get-away.

The Times/Herald has learned Scott will hold a fund-raiser tonight at the home of Lewis Bear, the boss of a Pensacola-based Anheuser-Busch distributor and a former finance committee member for Scott's GOP primary rival. The event is expected to attract about 80 people with a suggested donation of $2,500 per couple.

"The Republican Party has not done as good a job as other groups have at getting registered voters up, the number of Republican voters up and ... that's where that money is going to go," Scott said this morning during interview on WNRP-AM Pensacola.

Before the fundraiser, Scott will sit down for 30 minutes with the board of directors for the Pensacola Bay Area Chamber of Commerce. The rest of Scott's public schedule today is filled with staff meetings.
