Gov. Scott phones Dudek about investigation of assisted living homes
Gov. Rick Scott wouldn't say whether any action needed to be taken to protect residents of assisted living homes in Florida in response to a year-long Miami Herald investigation published Sunday that revealed the state Agency for Health Care Administration "has failed to monitor shoddy operators, investigate dangerous practices or shut down the worst offenders."
Scott didn't read the story, but did call AHCA Secretary Elizabeth Dudek about it this morning.
"I just asked her how they were and she's very committed to making sure that they do a very good job," Scott said. "She's like all of us. You care about people that are getting health care around the state."
Asked if he was satisfied with the state of Florida's assisted living homes, Scott said, "It's something that we always, constantly work on getting better at. And so I know that AHCA is very focused on it."
