Gov. Scott's office posts video on Floridians' auto insurance troubles
Gov. Rick Scott's office has released a video from the auto insurance workshops around the state. The video, which features several citizens talking about recent troubles with car insurance, was shot and edited by a member of Scott's press staff.
Scott has said he would like to make optional a state requirement for drivers to carry $10,000 worth of so-called "personal injury protection," insurance that helps pay for accident injuries regardless of which driver is at fault. The reason for the attention: insurance industry says the law invites fraud, which they claim is costing Florida drivers $658 million this year.
Scott has not released any specific proposals, but has met with citizens in five cities, including Tampa, about the issue and hosted a press conference on Tuesday with state CFO Jeff Atwater calling for broad reforms.
