Governors Forgotten the Sunshine Law?
Gov.-Elect Charlie Crist ducked into Gov. Jeb Bush's office at Tuesday 8:21 a.m., in an unnoticed meeting between the two Cabinet members. Only 20 minutes into the 40-minute meeting did the Governor's staff send out an updated schedule for the meeting.
Bush had been scheduled to pose for a photo with NASCAR NEXTEL Cup driver Kasey Kahne at 8:20 am in the Capitol courtyard. Yet, Bush came out five minutes earlier for the photo op. When Bush returned to the Capitol, Buzz, which had been tipped off to the meeting last night by a source, watched as Crist, who'd briefly come outside, went into the Capitol and headed straight for the governor's office.
The governor's press office sent a notice of the meeting as soon as they knew about it, said Communications Director Alia Faraj, who said no Cabinet issues were discussed and that she briefed both officials on the morning press clippings.
Faraj said the meeting comprised of congratulations and pleasantries. Bush later characterized the meeting as a "passing of the gavel" type, since he hadn't seen Crist face-to-face since the election.
UPDATE from Gov. Jeb Bush's office emailed at 1:59 p.m.: "Lt. Governor Toni Jennings will visit Lt. Governor-elect Jeff Kottkamp in the Lt. Governor's office this afternoon at 2 p.m."
