Greer fights for full delegate slate
With all the hand-wringing among Democrats over penalties for Florida's early primary, it's easy to forget Florida Republicans also stand to lose half their delegates to the national convention in Minnesota. Well, not if RPOF Chairman Jim Greer can help it. He tells us he plans to ask FL GOPers this weekend to support him in pushing to seat the entire FL delegation and fight RNC penalties that would cut that number in half for violating the party schedule.
"I'm going to take all 114 delegates to Minneapolis next year. If necessary, I'm prepared to fight it all the way to the convention floor," said Greer, who has been appointed to the RNC rules committee but said he has not discussed with the RNC general chairman and Florida Sen. Mel Martinez.
Among Greer's arguments for keeping all its delegates? 1. Florida's too important to the nominee to penalize the state. 2. The party rules impose penalties on states that select delegates prior to Feb. 4, but technically Florida won't select its delegates on Jan. 29.
