Greer shoots down Carol Carter

RPOF Chairman Jim Greer says Hillsborough State Committeewoman Carol Carter is out of luck in wanting to rescind her resignation over sending an e-mail widely seen as racist. Greer:

I recognize Ms. Carter’s service to the Republican Party and the contributions she has made. In addition, I have considered the views of Republicans on both sides of this issue, along with consulting with the Party’s general counsel regarding the ability of a person to rescind or revoke a resignation with a certain effective date. Also, neither RPOF rules, nor state law require that a member of the RPOF State Committee submit a letter of resignation to the Supervisor of Elections.

The matter before us today is not whether the email justified a resignation or disciplinary action. Rather whether procedurally a member of the state committee may submit a verbal and written resignation and then reconsider the decision after the resignation has become effective.

Therefore, after consideration of all the information before this office, I have determined that no such procedural availability exists to rescind Ms. Carter’s resignation. The resignation stands, and the office is hereby declared vacant to be filled by the local Republican Executive Committee in accordance with the Rules and Procedure of the Republican Party of Florida.
