Greer wins a second term as chairman

The vote: 169 for Jim Greer, 52 for Eric Miller. A blowout.

Mark Cross, a third candidate gave a speech touting Ron Paul's campaign and then withdrew his nomination in the name of party unity.

Charlie Crist made the nomination for Greer, seconded by Lincoln Diaz-Balart, among others. Crist: "Jim Greer is a friend and he is a great chairman and he is a great man. I have never seen anybody put the kind of energy into this job than he has...We need to be a party that welcomes everyone and our chairman understands that... We are in the business of gaining majorities. We are in the business that determines and demands inclusion."

Greer: "Some have called me a strong chairman and some have called me other names which I will not mention. But I have little time for But I can tell you I have little time for people who wish to divide our party, wish to criticize our party leaders and wish to promote non-unity within the Republican party. But I have all the time in the world to anyon that has constructive ideas, who brings more ideas to the table...We will not tolerate anyone who wishes to tear (our party) down."

He promised a aggressive voter registration program starting now, and a major outreach to African-American, Hispanic, and young voters, including a special conference later this year with young people 15 to 30 years old.

"We cannot be siimply tjhe party of opposition. we are the republican party. We lead with solutions and as the governor says - results...I have a msg for the Florida Democratic chairman and the Democratic party in Florida, one that might strike a nerve: In 2010 the governors mansion and the governor of this state, Charlie Crist, will be re-elected. We will elect a republican United States Senator, we will elect and send back a majority of Republican Congressional members. The Florida legislature will remain Republican and continue to grow, and the Republican party in this state will continue to dominate the political atmosphere and environment because our message is the right message."
