Guess who's coming to dinner?
Gov. Charlie Crist has invited Sen. JD Alexander, R-Lake Wales, to dinner at the mansion on Wednesday night , and this is one conversation that could get frosty. Alexander has made no secret of his opposition to a number of Crist's policies from a government-subsidized property insurance market to Crist's refusal to support a university tuition hike. Alexander remains agggravated by Crist's veto of a $5-million appropriation for a USF campus in Lakeland, even though it was supported by the higher education Board of Governors. Will he bring up the veto over dinner? "Of course," Alexander said, noting a comparative shortage of college-educated people in his Polk-Highlands district.
Here's Alexander's take on the disconnect between Crist's promises and the results so far: "It's real easy to go out and claim we're gonna do all kinds of things and it's real hard to really do 'em."
