Handicapping Harris

At a Leadership Florida candidate forum Saturday, Gallagher and Crist were asked whether they agreed with Jeb Bush’s assessment earlier this year that Katherine Harris can’t win the U.S. Senate race against Bill Nelson.

The ever-diplomatic Crist: “I don’t agree. I think she can win.’’
Gallagher: “I think she’s got a pretty good chance in the primary,’’ drawing big laughs. “We’ll see who wins that and then we’ll talk about the general (election).’’

A couple other quick notes from the event, which include separate forums for the Democrats and Republicans: Smith benefits from a time limit, which he did not have today. A number of spectators noted after how funny - and long-winded - he is. Gallagher continues to look far more comfortable addressing a specific policy question than giving a stump speech. We're struck by his following Crist's fashion lead at these events, and now is consistently losing the jacket as Crist has done for months.
