About 100 supporters and staffers gathered at Katherine Harris' Tampa campaign headquarters to celebrate her victory. They watched election returns on large-screen TVs and munched on a cake with Harris' photo on it. (They were careful to keep the photo intact.)
Harris arrived at 10:30 p.m. to chants of "We want Katherine." Here are the highlights from her speech in which she repeatedly referred to herself as a "gutsy fighter."
" Tonight’s a victory because it shows each of us that we can achieve adversity to achieve ectraordinary victory....This is a great victory but we can't rest for even a moment."
"Tomorrow morning our sights will be set on the election which is a mere 62 days away. Sixty-two days from now we’ll be claiming again our victory. Tonight I say to Bill Nelson, "Come home Bill, enough is enough."
"My friends make no mistake. It's not going to be easy. But standing here tonight with you is proof positive just how we can courageously beat the odds as we have time and time again with your help. We must all by gutsy fighters these next 62 days and together we’ll prove the naysayers and pundits wrong yet once again."
