Hasner calls Sands' energy bill letter 'much ado about nothing'

Majority Leader Rep. Adam Hasner, D-Delray Beach, just told the Buzz his chamber will, indeed, produce a renewable/clean energy bill to be considered this session as a companion to legislation (SB1154) from Sen. Jim King.

"We've said all along we wanted to wait until we saw the Senate bill," Hasner said, responding to a critical letter sent today from House Minority Leader Franklin Sands, D-Weston, to Speaker Larry Cretul.

"We have every intention of putting out a bill for debate and discussion," Hasner said. "That letter is a much ado about nothing. It's a desperate attempt to create news on a slow news day."

King, meanwhile, conceded he is "frustrated" with the House's lack of progress. He told the Buzz his staff has visited House representatives "every day, sometimes twice a day," to gauge their interest or plans in legislation requiring that 20 percent of Florida's energy come from renewable or clean energy by 2020.

"We're getting mixed signals," King said.
