Have You Heard? "Tom Gallagher is a Conservative"
That was the message Wednesday afternoon on a conference call of Florida conservative leaders arranged by the Tom Gallagher gubernatorial campaign. In attendance were state Rep. Dennis Baxley, R-Ocala; John Stemberger, Florida Family Policy Council; Anita Staver, Liberty Counsel; Carole Griffin, Eagle Forum; Barbara Collier, Reclaiming America; Bob Touchston, Florida Right to Life; Pam Olsen, Bush-Cheney ‘04.
Griffin trumpeted Gallagher's pledge to take down adult billboards and require libraries to install Internet filters; Collier criticized Crist's acceptance and/or support for his campaign from people associated with pro-gambling interests, such as Donald Trump.
And Stemberger, repeating charges he's made before, called Charlie Crist "a frontrunner who is an unapologetic advocate for gay rights," in part because of Crist's recent comments on a Miami radio talk show that he hadn't made up his mind about whether the state should repeal a law banning gay adoptions. Stemberger also noted that Gallagher was the first statewide elected official to support the proposed anti-gay marriage amendment. "In contrast, Charlie Crist has only given token support," Stemberger said.
Stemberger questioned Crist's church membership and attendance saying he has never seen any mention of it anywhere.
Buzz can help here. Crist belongs to a United Methodist Church in St. Petersburg. He says he attends whenever he can "but I pray every night."
