Hialeah lawmaker to resign Friday for Miami-Dade run
State Rep. Esteban Bovo, a Hialeah Republican, has submitted his resignation to the Florida House effective Friday so that he can run for Miami-Dade County Commission.
"As a Member of the Florida House, I have dedicated myself to providing focused, accessible, and principled service to the residents of District 110," Bovo wrote in his letter to House Speaker Dean Cannon dated Thursday. "The same unwavering call to serve that brought me to the Florida House in 2008 now springs me to pursue a new and unique opportunity in my community as a potential member of the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners."
Bovo has filed to seek the seat of ousted Hialeah-Miami Lakes Commissioner Natacha Seijas, who was recalled last week along with Mayor Carlos Alvarez. The county commissioner is expected to set a special election date at a special meeting at 10 a.m. Thursday.
