House deadline to public: Get your redistricting maps done by Nov. 1

September

Florida redistricting After a summer packed with 26 redistricting hearings across the state, House redistricting chairman Will Weatherford imposed two November deadlines for the public and legislators to present redistricting maps. The maps must be submitted to the three subcommittees charged with crafting the chamber's plan. The deadline for the public submissions is Nov. 1 and for legislators it is Nov. 14.

Any proposal submitted after that will be considered an amendment to an existing bill, Weatherford said.

Meanwhile, Weatherford ordered the subcommittees on House, Senate and Congressional redistriciting to come up with three map options because "the public said they wanted options." The committee will then review and vote on which of those plans it will recommend to the full House which would vote during the regular session, which begins Jan. 10.

Weatherford would not promise that a committee vote on a House plan would come early in the session, as has been urged by hundreds of the nealry 2000 who appeared to speak at the redistricting hearigs. "There is no date certain when we have to vote on them,'' Weatherford said. "It can be before session but they can also come in session.”
