House Republicans pressure Sink on plane use
Four House Republicans are calling for Democratic CFO Alex Sink to undertake an independent investigation of her use of state aircraft. The lawmakers are Reps. Chris Dorworth, Steve Crisafulli, Mike Horner and Matt Hudson. In a letter to Sink, the four say it is a "clear conflict of interest" for Sink to use her own staff members to review her aircraft use. The letter, reported first by The Palm Beach Post, also makes a reference to Sink's claim that the Office of Financial Regulation should not investigate itself over the controversy involving financier Allen Stamford.
Dorworth, a Lake Mary real estate investor, brings a unique perspective to the subject of public officials and their use of aircraft. He was one of four House Republicans who hired a lobbyist's jet during a January special session of the Legislature to attend the national college football championship game in Miami (story here). The legislators said they all paid their own way (it's illegal under the gift ban for them to accept travel from a lobbyist or a client of a lobbyist).
