House undecided on claims bill
Marco Rubio said he's not yet sure how the House will address Gov. Charlie Crist's urgent call for a $5-million claims bill for the family of Martin Lee Anderson. Speaker Rubio called the case, "a very sad and tragic one," but added, "There are a number of claims bills that have been in the process for a number of years now, some are very sad stories. And those I think are equally important to the tragic case of Martin Lee Anderson."
Rubio cited the case ofMinouche Noel, a Broward County girl paralyzed by a botched surgery at state-run program. The House approved a $6-million claims bill for her last year, but the Senate squashed the idea when it did not take up the bill.
Rubio rejected the interpretation that his comments meant the Anderson case should not leapfrog ahead of others, saying only that the House has not yet examined the issue.
