How Florida voted on debt limit extension
The U.S. House today approved a three-month extension on the federal debt limit, a retreat of sorts by the GOP. But Republicans think they've added some future leverage. The deal requires the Senate to pass a budget by mid-April or Congress will not be paid.
"This legislation gives teeth to our budget laws by actually creating a punishment for failing to comply with those budget laws – if you don’t do your job and pass a budget, then you don’t get paid. Period," said Rep. Rich Nugent, R-Spring Hill. "This brings Congress one small step closer to what it’s like for people back in the real world – if you don’t do your job, don’t expect to get paid."
