How Florida's voting in RNC chair race

11

January

You may recall that former GOP Chairman Jim Greer was an early and enthusiastic supporter of Michael Steele for RNC Chairman in 2009, when Greer flirted with running for the post himself. Greer's no longer around, and Florida's RNC members are divided over Friday's RNC chairman's election.

National Committeewoman and RNC Secretary Sharon Day of Fort Lauderdale is staying neutral while she focuses on her campaign for RNC co-chairman (Lord knows why she'd want to give up reading the roll call at the 2012 GOP convention in Tampa).

National Committeeman Paul Senft of Haines City tells Buzz he has committed to supporting Steele -- for the first round of balloting. He said his commitment is based on his appreciation for how fairly the RNC treated Tampa during the site selection process for the 2012 convention (a feeling not shared by Florida Republicans who vied for previous conventions). Senft wouldn't say who he'll support in later rounds of balloting.

Florida GOP Chairman John Thrasher is backing Wisconsin Republican Party Chairman Reince Priebus for RNC Chairman, but will miss the actual vote because he will be in Orlando for the state party's annual meeting where a successor to Thrasher will be elected. Senft will be his proxy, casting a Thrasher proxy vote for Priebus and his own for Steele.
