Insurance Committee Buzz
No senator ranked Banking and Inurance as their No. 1 choice for committee assignments, but as many as 14 senators ranked a Banking and Insurance assignment within their top 5 committee choices.
Senators said that their No. 1 choice tends to be what they wish (or think they have a shot) to chair. Many assumed that a Banking and Insurance chairmanship was off the table, since Sen. Bill Posey has been tapped as the temporary point person on the issue. Buzz has yet to hear who has been officially named chairman. Posey ranked "B & I" as his 5th choice.
Among those ranking B & I as their No. 2 choice: Republican Mike Bennett, incoming Democrat minority leader Sen. Steven Geller and Sen. Gary Siplin. Among those who ranked it as their 3rd choice: Republicans Sen. Jim King, Sen. J.D. Alexander and Democrat Sen. David Aronberg.
Senators are finding out their committee assignments today. Geller, who did not get on insurance, confirmed Democrats got 4 slots on B & I. So far those willing to confirm that they did NOT get on Banking and Insurance are Senators Mike Fasano and Dave Aronberg.
In the House, nearly all of the members who served on the Insurance Committee last session expressed interest in staying on board. Lakeland Republican Dennis Ross, who chaired the committee, made it his No. 1 pick and is expected to retain the post.
